Anuenue crews participating in the 2023 Regatta races were the men 70s, womens 60s, mens 40s, and a women’s freshman crew. It wasn’t a big year for medals or points scoring with only the mens 70s getting two third place finishes.
As a result, unfortunately the club did not qualify any crews for the HCRA States championships held in Hilo. Noteworthy there was a different race course that eliminated the quarter mile turn that in the past was close to the river with at times a current inequality effect on the closest lanes. Instead the turn buoys were located on the opposite side of the centrally located finish line (also the start of the half mile and longer races). This revised course will also be used in the 2024 World Sprints competition.
After cancellation of the Moloka’i races, the distance highlight for the season was a second place finish for a mens 40s crew in their category for the Maui Strong Canoe Fundraiser races held on 10/8/2023. 170 crews participated in different age group and other categories in the event. The club also entered a womens crew in the annual 26-mile E Lau Hoe race.
