Anuenue Comeback!
For the first time in a number of years, Anuenue has once again entered younger crews thanks especially to Nappy’s ‘ohana and friends. The club was teetering on the edge of not having enough crews for the OHCRA minimum and becoming inactive.
Organized and coached by Sepa Napoleon, the club has entered 12 and under boys, girls, and mixed crews in this year’s first four regattas. In addition on the young adult side, we now have competitive men, women, and mixed Novice B crews with one first place finish for the mixed group and also the men’s crew who have been consistently among the top three finishers. Darren Napoleon has been instrumental in their improvement
MacFarlane results included a near miss for the men’s Novice B crew in a tight battle that resulted in third place. For the older gentlemen of the 70s, steersman Darren found a favorable ride coming in resulting in a third place finish while prerace favorite Waimanalo ran into trouble in their lane coming in a surprising fifth.
Moving on to the regular season finale with the OHCRA championships, the men’s Novice B had a strong second place finish while the women came in fifth. Both crews qualified for States and each had a middle of the pack finish with the men 6th and the women 8th. The men’s 70s also competed but were 12th out of 14 crews. Best of all at the Hilo World Sprints were the 80s crews defending their gold medals of two years ago with gold medals again in both races for a Back to Back championship performance!
