Molokai 2015

October 8, 2016 by Peter Caldwell

Molokai 2015 did not get off to a good start with the cancellation of Na Wahine O Ke Kai due to extreme and dangerous channel conditions. Back in 1980, a similar call was made and for very good reason. With the number of crews involved now, major logistical problems had to be overcome but safety had to be the number one consideration.

For the Molokai Hoe, defending champion EDT decided to not return and focus on the Hawaiki Nui race. As a result, Shell (4:57:52) was the winner again leading two other Tahitian crews to the finish. Ānuenueʻs open crew finished in 6:29:16 while Nappy paddled with an outer island crew for a second place in the 65s division.
